I recently heard this quote--
“If all you had today was what you thanked God for
yesterday, what would you have?”
Fortunately, because of God’s amazing grace, that isn’t how
God works. God’s blessings are given to
us because of who God is—not because of who we are or what we say or do. But the words did stop me and require me to
think about how often I truly thank God.
I paused and thanked God for hot water, a comfortable bed, a
home, food and a car. I thanked God for
my job, my family, and my friends. I
thanked God for opportunities to travel, to obtain higher education, to explore
and discover the world. I thanked God
for clothes, shoes, health, my ability to move and speak, our pets, and all of
creation.
My list could have gone on and on—clean air, access to
grocery stores, toothbrushes and toothpaste—yet
I know I can never, ever thank God enough for who God is and the ways in
which God has blessed my life.
How about you and your family? How often do you pause to
thank God for your blessings? Consider thanking God for one or two blessings
each day. Make them specific and unique to the day. Let’s each be mindful of God’s goodness and
then praise God together!
